4th Annual Soul Train “Lady of Soul” Awards

Destiny’s Child, one of Columbia Records’ new female groups, lead the fourth annual Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards nominations with four. The nominees were announced July 30 at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Both Janet Jackson and Erykah Badu had three nominations each, while Aretha Franklin, Mary J. Blige, SWV, and Changing Faces received two nominations apiece.

Chaka Khan  received the Lena Horne Award for outstanding career achievement, while Mariah Carey was honored with the 1998 Aretha Franklin Award for entertainer of the year.

Launching her latest tome, Katie, aka Jordan, squeezed into a cleavage-busting black bathing cossie with the front cover emblazoned across it in glitter with typical understatement. Credit where it’s due though, it’s worked, and Ms Price is yet again at No. 1 in the hardback fiction charts. The Bookseller’s chart editor Philip Stone told Mail Online that Paradise had sold 12,742 in its first week, more than double its nearest rival, The Burning Wire by Jeffery Deaver. Mr Stone said: ‘It’s done incredibly well. There’s still a huge market for her books. After all, even Martin Amis has read them to see what the fuss is about.’ Jordan’s shameless self-promotion certainly won’t hurt though as she attempts to add to her £40million fortune.
