An MTV report:

It was Jay-Z that alerted Timbaland to Drake’s skills, and Drizzy himself said that when he talks with Hov, the Jiggaman drops wisdom on various subjects. Drake and Jay collaborated for a record called “Light Up” off of the 23-year-old newcomer’s Thank Me Later LP.

“It’s just me and Jay both rapping on it for an extended period of time,” Drake told MTV News on the set of his video for “Over.” “It’s real rap. It’s real rap. I do sing on it, but it’s just on the hook — but it’s rap. It’s great. The perspective, the dynamic on the track — it’s me and Jay’s relationship on the song, basically. When you hear it, people will be like, ‘Oh man.’ That’s how we are — just the two. He definitely has guided me a lot, as far as his words and his advice. We have a real funny rapport. I always enjoy my conversations with Jay. It’s good.”

Both tracks came out in 1989 but “Parents Just Don’t Understand” is a Grammy Award winning rap song on the album “He’s the DJ, I’m the Rapper” sung by rap duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince. The song won the 1989 Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance, the first of two ever awarded in that category, and reached #12 on the U.S. Pop Singles Chart.

“Forever” is Drake’s single recorded in collaboration with Kanye West, Lil Wayne and Eminem and released as a single from the soundtrack to LeBron James’s More Than a Game documentary.

Behind the Scenes

The ad also features Drake’s real life long-time collaborators: producers 40 and Boy Wonder.

“The day we were shooting they had generic extras in this beautiful set they had created. I told them, ‘look, honestly, this is not really how I record. My recording sessions don’t look like a party, we actually come to work’,” says Drake. “To make it a genuine studio moment I asked if 40 and Boy Wonder could be a part of it, they are key elements behind my creative process. To have all three of us in the commercial was a glorious moment for me.

Life before Beyonce…

Kane explains that he didn’t fill the traditional hype man role, instead Jay-Z “basically made cameo appearances on stage. When I would leave the stage to go change outfits, I would bring out Jay-Z and Positive K and let them freestyle until I came back to the stage.”

“Doggy Dogg World” is the third single from Snoop Doggy Dogg’s debut album Doggystyle.

This retro style video takes us back to the world of seventies. It presents Snoop as a pimpish owner of an old fashioned music club where a Dramatics live concert and party is going on. The video is a 1994 winner of an MTV Video Music Award for Best Rap Video.
